Symposium 2018

January 25-28  |  Winter Park, Florida

More than 450 souls gathered at GladdeningLight’s new home on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida for the annual GladdeningLight Symposium, January 25-28, 2018. From playful banter between poet Billy Collins and keynoter Krista Tippett to GladdeningLight director Randall B Robertson’s talk on music and the movies to Oscar-winner Gustavo Santaolalla’s heartfelt testimony and musicianship to AO Scott’s take on the moviegoing experience — the weekend deepened our love of spirituality and film.

Enter into the art of possibility with GladdeningLight

NPR host Krista Tippett engaged in conversation with two-term U.S. Poet Laureate and author of The Rain in Portugal, Billy Collins.  Ms. Tippett has recently written Becoming Wise.  A.O. Scott, acclaimed movie critic with The New York Times and author of Better Living Through Criticism lectured, and all participated on a panel to ponder the art of composition and criticism with Gustavo Santaolalla, film score composer for 21 Grams, Amores perros, Biutiful, The Motorcycle Diaries and winner of Academy Awards for both Babel and Brokeback Mountain.

Free Planet Radio participated once again, bringing a shared vision of three multi-instrumentalists who bridge the world’s infinite and seamless musical cultures toward the universal language of sound.  Highlights of their Winter Park appearance included customary musical atmospherics to frame each GladdeningLight event and a free performance for college & community at Rollins’ Tiedtke Concert Hall with Gustavo Santaolalla & Virginia Schenck.
